The P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Lehigh University invites applications for the tenured Full Professor position of Chair of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) (https://engineering.lehigh.edu/matsci). Applicants should possess an earned PhD in Materials Science or a related discipline and have the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in the MSE Department. The candidate should advance Lehigh's reputation as a prominent research and educational institution by demonstrating accomplishments and future potential in research and scholarship. They should also have a strong commitment to teaching students in an inclusive learning environment. Selection criteria will include consideration of the candidate's relevant experience in contributing to and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs or activities that provide an environment in which faculty, staff and students can thrive.

The successful candidate will bring  their vision and leadership skills and be interested in engaging a department of outstanding faculty, students, and staff to  promote a productive, collegial environment, and to build upon the department's nationally recognized strengths in research, industry partnership, and undergraduate/graduate education. The Chair will also be an integral member of the college leadership team and actively participate in service to the university community. Lehigh's MSE Department is consistently ranked among the top 35 nationally. The department currently awards B.S., M.S., M.Eng. and Ph.D. degrees in Materials Science and Engineering, as well as M.S., M.Eng. and Ph.D. degrees in Polymer Science and Engineering. MSE faculty have attained national prominence in the thematic research areas of Sustainable Materials and Manufacturing, Materials for Advancing Human Health, and Advanced Materials Characterization, with annual research expenditures totaling $5 million. The successful candidate will join a growing interdisciplinary group of faculty members at Lehigh University working within one or more of our three Interdisciplinary Research Institutes; namely the Institutes for Functional Materials and Devices, for Cyber Physical Infrastructure, and for Data, Intelligent Systems and Computation.

The Rossin College consists of eight departments, twelve research-based M.S. and Ph.D. programs, ten professional master's programs, and twelve undergraduate programs. The college also has multiple cross-college honors programs with the College of Business and with the College of Arts and Sciences. The College faculty includes approximately 130 tenure-track and 20 teaching faculty members. The student body includes approximately 2,000 undergraduate students and 800 graduate students. The College has broad-based research activities across numerous areas of scholarly excellence and is focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
