Employer: Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary

Discipline: Bioinformatics, 3D genome, epigenomics

Position title: Postdoctoral fellow.

Fields of specialization: Bioinformatics, computational biology, next generation sequencing, data analysis, cancer research, brain tumors, epigenomics.

Description: Dr Marco Gallo is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow with extensive experience in bioinformatic analysis of next generation sequencing data. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in a Canada-wide effort to decipher the epigenomic landscape of pediatric brain cancers. The postdoctoral fellow will work closely with wet lab scientists in the Gallo lab to generate and analyze epigenomics data, and will develop her/his own lines of inquiry. The successful candidate will analyze epigenomics data using existing and established pipelines, will be expected to design improvements over such pipelines to tailor bioinformatic analyses to the specific needs of the Gallo lab, and will be engaged in creative efforts to develop new bioinformatic tools and/or approaches.

Skills required: The successful candidate will have a rich list of publications in prestigious international journals, demonstrated experience with Linux/Unix, R, and analysis of next generation sequencing data. In particular, the candidate should be familiar with analysis of ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, RNA-seq, exome and whole-genome sequencing data. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with creative ideas and extensive knowledge of bioinformatic tools. She/he will be able to work and solve problems independently, design and execute their own projects, and work with colleagues in a team setting.

Minimum educational requirements: Candidates must have a PhD and work experience in internationally renowned laboratories. We expect the successful candidate to be competitive for Federal, Provincial and Institutional awards and fellowships. The most advanced degree must have been conferred within the last 3 years.

Research environment: This research will be carried out at the Cumming School of Medicine, UCalgary. All the epigenomic studies will be performed on clinical samples and patient-derived models. The candidate will work alongside fundamental scientists and clinical scientists.

How to Apply: Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, their CV including contact information for three references, and a research plan (one to two pages outlining your current research interests and/or research plans for the next part of your career).

Calgary: Ideally situated at the feet of the Rocky Mountains, Calgary is the most entrepreneurial city in the country. Combining a culture of strong work ethics and easy access to natural sites, the city allows an optimal life style for people at all stages of life.
