ROLE SUMMARY

The Cancer Vaccines and Immunotherapeutics department within Pfizer's Oncology R&D organization is developing state-of-the-art immunotherapy regimens to benefit cancer patients. This Principal Scientist position will join a highly skilled and dedicated Molecular and Cellular Biology (MCB) team to apply expertise and leadership advancing novel immunotherapies from preclinical research through early clinical development.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific responsibilities will include:
  • Serving as MCB line representative on one or more RNA-platform based immunotherapeutic programs.
    • In collaboration with cross-functional team, engineer next generation of DNA/RNA constructs supporting the selection of optimal design of antigens for RNA -based immunotherapeutics.
    • Optimize and produce mRNA suitable for various target identification/ validation and POC studies.
    • Design and conduct relevant molecular and cellular expression/assays to characterize DNA/RNA constructs.
    • Apply scientific expertise in RNA based therapeutics to advance programs. Work effectively with cross-functional teams, providing specialized knowledge and influence to maximize program speed and success.
    • Potentially serve as Research Project Leader or Sub Team Leader on an RNA platform based therapeutic program.
  • Contribute expertise in molecular and cellular biology to other Cancer Vaccines and Immunotherapeutics programs to aid development and advancement of the portfolio.
  • Provide ideas and perform research to identify new opportunities to develop immune-mediated therapeutics.
  • Directly manage a small team of experimental scientists, maximizing employee productivity, engagement, and professional development.
  • Strengthen line and department's overall immuno-oncology capabilities and expertise.
  • Contribute to preparation of drug development and regulatory documents.
  • Effectively communicate strategy, methodology, progress, and challenges to multiple stakeholders and partners.
  • Participate in collaboration with external academic and industry partners to advance programs and develop new ones.


QUALIFICATIONS

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ph.D. in molecular and cellular biology, immunology, cancer biology, or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of post-Ph.D. experience in the area of RNA based therapeutics for the treatment of cancer.
  • Prior experience DNA/RNA construct designs, IVT RNA production and characterization.
  • Demonstrated productivity working as part of cross-functional team.
  • Minimum 1 year supervising a small team of laboratory scientists.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in the field of RNA/lipid nanoparticles formulation.
  • Expertise with a variety of different molecular cloning techniques.
  • Expertise developing and performing cell-based assays.
  • Experience in generating stable cell lines.
  • A strong record of achievement, including advancement of cancer drug projects and/or publications.
  • Outstanding communication and ability to both influence and motivate others.


PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

May be required to work with BSL2 infectious viruses (e.g., Vaccinia, adenovirus, lentivirus, etc.)

May receive and maintain required vaccinations or provide satisfactory proof of same.
