Eastern Virginia Medical School seeks qualified applicants for a full-time salaried faculty position at the ASSISTANT PROFESSOR level. EVMS is Southeastern Virginia’s premier medical education and research institution located in Norfolk’s historic Ghent neighborhood on an impressive and growing campus with access to world class hospitals and extensive core facilities.
We are seeking an individual with multi-disciplinary and/or team approaches to research in the Biomedical Sciences. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in translational research and/or approaches to utilization of patient data/biospecimens, data analysis, epidemiology or omics technologies. Through existing regional partnerships, EVMS has a diagnostics discovery and innovation program, state-of-the-art proteomics/genomics center, data analytics infrastructure and a centralized CAP-approved biorepository.
Successful applicants should have a strong track record of publications and proven or high potential for obtaining sustained extramural funding. A research program targeted to cancer and/or at the interface of cancer and other diseases is highly desirable. All exceptional candidates will be considered.
Responsibilities: The primary duties of the successful candidates will be to
- Develop or maintain an extramurally funded research program
- Participate in teaching medical and graduate students.
- Participate in service activities of the school (e.g. service on committees)
Qualifications: Successful candidates should have a PhD, MD or MD/PhD degree, and at least two years postdoctoral training with a strong track record of publications. Evidence of ability to obtain research funding is strongly recommended.
Rank and salary: The successful applicant will hold a full-time academic appointment in either the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Cell Biology or Department of Physiological Sciences, depending on area of expertise at the Assistant Professor level. Salary is dependent upon rank, qualifications and experience. A highly competitive start-up package and compensation with comprehensive benefits are available for qualified candidates.
