Primary Duties:

The Software and Data Engineering team within the Data Science Group at Spark Therapeutics is seeking a Senior Data Science Business Analyst for research and lab data management and automation. This role serves as a key group member to support data strategy, process management, business architecture, and solution implementation needs of the department. Primary responsibilities of the SDSBA include:

• Work closely with the Lab Automation team, bioinformatics, and machine learning scientists to architect, document, and map out data ingestion, acquisition, and storage solutions.

• Develop data dictionary, business flow diagrams, future state process map, and other solutions to facilitate data accessibility and transparency.

• Provide data management support for integrated systems such as NGS equipment, and liquid handling instruments.

• Consult on the feasibility of data solutions with internal business and IT resources.

• Contribute to the documentation of data flow, business requirements, and data infrastructure.

• Manage data definition and business rule changes through a defined intake process.

• Ensures quality and integrity of master data in key systems, as well as development and documentation of processes with other functional data owners to support ongoing maintenance.

• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders translating requirements into highly specified project briefs.

• Perform analysis and design activities on Business and IT initiatives by eliciting, defining, validating, and translating business functional, non-functional and information objectives, then validating them when implemented.

• Ensure appropriate project documentation is compiled and proper review and approvals from respective teams and stakeholders are gathered and collated.

• Help increase project transparency and progress tracking through detailed and intuitive documentation.

  • Track and document current processes, design future state roadmaps, and business flow diagrams.

  • Collaborate with different stakeholders to gather requirements, provide insight, and make recommendations as to the subject matter expert.

  • Create dashboards, reports, and visualization solutions.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• B.S. in Computer science, or related field.

• +5 years of experience working as a business analyst, focused on functional requirements gathering and data flow mapping.

• +2 years of experience with Tableau, Looker, or other BI, reporting, and visualization tools.

• +2 years of experience with data governance tool suites (e.g., Informatica, Collibra, Alation, etc.), and implementation/operational usage Business Glossary, Data Catalog, Data Quality capabilities within these tools.

• Deep understanding of data management, integration, modeling, and profiling concepts.

• Good understanding of Data Lake/Hadoop platform implementation.

• Experience in biotech/pharma is highly preferred.

Key Skills, Abilities, and Competencies:

• Experience in capturing complex business requirements, analyzing and translating them into easily understandable functional requirements.

• Proven experience working on big data operations, documenting and mapping structured/unstructured data pipelines, and ETL/ELT solutions.

• Strong client-engagement skills and ability to explain complex technical concepts to a non-technical audience.

• Knowledge of data modeling (relational and non-relational) concepts and principles.

• Proven ability to work independently, self-motivated to learn and develop new methodologies, manage multiple projects simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with company policies.

• Knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies, Software Development Life Cycle, Source Control systems, Git conventions, and CI/CD pipelines.

• Knowledge of enterprise software patterns and conventions.

• Ability to ramp up quickly and learn tools and technologies

• Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)

• Ability to write clear documentation, present technical solutions/outlooks, and simplify complex processes.

• Works with colleagues as a team player.
