The Immunology Group within Translational Research Department uses traditional and cutting-edge technology to ensure the safety of all therapeutic strategies at Spark. It is also responsible for the proof-of-concept studies design and execution for treatment of autoimmune diseases, choice of autoimmune indications and establishing the candidate development strategy from Research to Preclinical stage. The successful candidate’s primary responsibility will be to, in collaboration with other team members, propose, design, plan, perform and coordinate execution of in vivo and in vitro studies with the goal of advancing Immunology projects.

The Research Associate is going to be a member of the Immunology Group within the Translational Research Department. He/She will be responsible for:

• Specimen preparation and performing immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF) and Fluorescent in-situ hybridization (FISH)

• Image acquisition with use of (confocal) microscopy

• Performing in-house qualitative or quantitative image analysis (HALO Indica Labs, Amaris)

• Develop and drive histology-based assays (through external and internal collaboration) including immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF) and in-situ hybridization (ISH) to support Immunology Group Projects

• Providing summaries of data to scientists and the leads. Summarize findings (PowerPoint presentation, research reports etc.) and communicate to peers and management and wider Research and Clinical groups as projects evolve

• Performing cell culture (primary and cell lines) and execution of cell-based immunoassays

• Carrying out ELISA, MSD, enzymatic activity and QPCR assays with high scientific quality

• With guidance from scientists/the lead, implementing new assays or optimizing existing ones

• Maintain accurate, timely and detailed records of work (ELN)

Responsibilities

  • Design, planning, execution, and reporting of histology, bioanalytical/immunological assays including cell-based assays
  • Data analysis, review, discussion and recording in form of study reports and/or presentations
  • Implementation of new technologies, assay development and optimization
  • Performance of cross-functional projects to support Immunology Group at large
Education and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant life sciences field such as cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, virology, or genetics/genomics. Master’s degree is a plus.

• 3-5+ years of relevant hands-on experience in laboratory. Industry experience and familiarity with GLP is a plus.

• Ability to work independently and as a part of a team in hands-on laboratory setting, eager to learn, explore and develop new techniques

• Able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with company policies

• Adaptable with a positive attitude, excellent organizational and communication skills

• Experienced with immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy, and image analysis. Experience with other laboratory techniques such as MSD, ELISA, QPCR and cell-based assays is a plus.

• Strong analytical skills and problem-solving capabilities

• Proactive and collaborative mindset, exhibiting an enthusiastic team attitude
