Site Name: USA - Pennsylvania - Upper Providence Posted Date: Oct 2 2021 The Novel Human Genetics Research Unit (NHG RU) at GSK comprises a multidisciplinary team that utilizes deep scientific knowledge and technical capabilities to identify and validate novel therapeutic targets with genetic association to diseases and undertake drug discovery efforts from early stage discovery through to phase 1 clinical trials. We are seeking to hire a highly motivated scientist to fill a Senior Scientist position in the Novel Human Genetics Research Unit in R&D. The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team to design and execution of genetic studies in disease-relevant cellular systems for target validation studies. Specifically, the successful candidate will perform experiments interrogating genes/pathways in physiologically- or disease-relevant cellular models (including iPS-derived cells and primary cells) via genetic or chemical means and will measure the impact via phenotypic assays. The scientist will have the opportunity to work on targets and pathways relevant to a variety of human diseases and therapeutic areas. Job functions: •Maintain cell culture (cell lines / human primary cells) to support assay development. •Utilize various transfection/transduction methods to knockdwon or overexpression target genes in cell lines / primary cells. •Conduct experiments directed to investigate the biological effects of target genes. •Perform detections of biomarker changes using various assay methods, such as ELISA, Western, imaging, RT-PCR. •Analyze and summarize experimental data using a variety of laboratory instrumentation and computer softwares. •Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks according to company guidelines. Basic Qualifications: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: •BS or MS in Biological Sciences required with laboratory experience in molecular biology and cell biology. •Candidate is expected to have experience in sterile cell culture and gene expression (knockdown and overexpression) techniques. •Experience in cell-based assays (e.g. immune-sandwich, reporter gene etc.) and/or biochemical assays. •Ability to execute experiment independently and work collaboratively with colleagues. •Candidate must be able to do independent literature research, analyze, summarize and interpret experimental data and maintain records according to company policy. •Candidate must have the ability to cooperate with others both to accomplish scientific goals and to perform general maintenance duties.
