What You Will Achieve

Pfizer's Rare Disease Research Unit (RDRU) is committed to developing therapies for rare inherited diseases. The successful candidate will become a member of a team working on repeat expansion, inborn error of metabolism, and cardiovascular diseases, employing small molecule and gene therapy approaches. The candidate will contribute to in vivo studies to asses efficacy of therapies and new target validation to characterize potential therapeutics. This Senior Associate Scientist will make significant technical contributions under moderate supervision by using established methodologies and will be encouraged to practice novel technical approaches.

How You Will Achieve It
  • Effectively balances resources as needed to achieve timely execution of projects across multiple research teams.
  • Learn from other scientists and implement new techniques to support multiple projects
  • Develop and execute novel assays with moderate guidance from senior scientific staff
  • Work collaboratively with project teams
  • Interpret and present data in project meetings
  • Maintain high quality and detailed experimental records

  • B.S. with minimum 3 years or M.S. with 2 years of experience in an industrial or academic setting
  • Degree in biology or related discipline
  • 2+ years of hands on experience in animal handling, dosing, tissue collection
  • 2+ years of experience in histology techniques such as tissue sectioning on microtome, cryostat or vibratome
  • Experience with basic molecular biology including DNA, RNA, and protein isolation and analyses
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to changing project needs

  • Experience in mouse colony management
  • Experience with staining techniques including optimization for different proteins on different tissue sections
  • Basic skills in cell culture

  • Must be able to wear standard PPE (lab coat/safety shoes/glasses/etc.)
