Key Responsibilities: Be involved in all aspects of the Development of Upstream Processes for the manufacture of Biopharmaceuticals including initial Process Screening, Optimization and Characterization, Validation, Scale-up and Tech Transfer to Clinical Manufacturing and/or Commercial Manufacturing partners. Be a member of a team responsible for developing Cell Culture Processes for the manufacture of biopharmaceuticals using mammalian cells viz. CHO. Be part of a team that is involved in the scale-up and technology transfer of manufacturing processes for the production of clinical supplies and commercial-scale protein production. Expected to participate in Technology Development initiatives as it relates to Process Development. Expected to perform bench-scale and pilot scale experiments working with the team to develop, characterize or validate upstream processes and compile/analyze experimental results. Responsible for communicating results in the form of presentations and written reports as required. Expected to work seamlessly within a team, interacting on a routine basis with colleagues in process development, analytical, clinical and commercial manufacturing teams. Why you? Basic Qualifications: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: BS in Chemical/Biochemical Engineering or related Biological Sciences Preferred Qualifications: If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus: Industrial experience in developing cell culture and microbial fermentation manufacturing processes for the production of biopharmaceuticals, in an internship or Co-op position is preferred. Demonstrated record of scientific achievement and a basic knowledge of cellular physiology and/or general engineering principles pertaining to bioreactors. Highly motivated self-starter with excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a matrix team environment. Basic understanding of manufacturing processes for biopharmaceuticals. Basic knowledge of statistical science/analysis is highly desired. Hands on experience working in a laboratory environment, preferably with cell culture or culturing microbial or animal cells is desired. Hands on experience in process characterization and process development activities and working with small scale bioreactors is recommended but not required. Thorough knowledge of the workings of large-scale bioreactors, especially aspects concerning mass transfer and mixing times is desired. Why GSK?
