Analytical Chemist, Structure Elucidation and Separations

Role Summary and Responsibilities
Pfizer Boulder R&D (formerly Array Biopharma) is seeking applicants for an analytical chemist who is experienced in separation/purification (HPLC, SFC) and small molecule structure elucidation by NMR spectroscopy.

In this role, the successful candidate will serve as a key resource and contributor to the Medicinal Chemistry department by providing separations and structural elucidation to support Pfizer Boulder R&D drug discovery programs and development pipeline. Work performed in this role includes purification, characterization, and structure elucidation of small molecules and metabolites, as well as analytical chemistry support for process development (e.g., identification of process impurities, drug product degradants, and other unknowns).

The chosen candidate will interact with a diverse group of world-class scientists in a professional work environment and will be focused on making impactful contributions to pipeline projects through NMR problem solving. We are looking for a highly highly-skilled and motivated individual, who, while capable of working independently, understands and value of cross-functional teamwork and our common mission to invent and develop new therapeutic solutions to unmet medical needs.

Basic Qualifications
  • Ph.D. with 4+ years, M.S. with 9+ years' experience or BS with 12+ years experience in chemistry, analytical chemistry or related field
  • Research experience in NMR structure elucidation with a track record of accomplishments in the area of small organic molecule structure elucidation (e.g., pharmaceuticals, natural products, etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of NMR instrumentation, hardware, software, and experimental NMR methodologies. Experience with routine NMR maintenance, cryogen service, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated experience in HPLC and/or SFC separation (including chiral separation). This includes experience in the development and optimization of chromatographic methods, as well as instrument upkeep, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance
  • Technically inclined with a willingness to learn basic instrument troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • A working knowledge of organic chemistry; experience in a medicinal or process chemistry environment is highly desirable
  • Experience using modern NMR software packages, including Bruker Topspin™, MestreNova™, and ACD Labs™ is highly desirable
  • IT literate with the ability to manipulate data workflows in a networked environment (e.g., Windows and Linux OS, macros, scripts, etc.)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Customer focused and driven to continually work towards technical and process improvements

For roles based in Colorado :
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $90,500 to $150,900. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 15% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan, paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
