The Wistar Institute is seeking a talented and motivated scientist at the postdoctoral level to join the Vaccine & Immunotherapy Center at The Wistar Institute in the laboratory of Dr. Ami Patel.  Dr. Patel’s research focuses on the cellular and immune mechanisms of gene-encoded vaccines/immunotherapies against emerging infectious diseases and protein delivery in vivo.  We are studying gene therapy and immune modulation approaches to enhance non-viral nucleic acid delivery in vivo.  The successful candidate will lead projects aimed to understand mechanisms that contribute to efficacy, including expression, potency, and modulation of innate and adaptive immune responses.  The research will incorporate a range of studies including gene expression profiling, immune profiling, and mouse model studies.  Both basic research as well as translational studies are envisioned under this postdoctoral appointment.

Candidates should have or be close to obtaining a PhD (or equivalent) degree with a background in one or more of the following disciplines:  gene therapy, immunology, virology, and/or molecular biology. Applicants with experience in one or more of the following relevant areas are desirable:  infectious diseases, innate immunity, molecular cloning, microscopy, flow cytometry, and mouse models. Applicants with experience in vivo gene delivery and transplantation, as well as respiratory pathogens are strongly encouraged to apply.

Competitive applicants will have strong critical thinking, organizational and communication skills.  The Fellow will work closely with collaborators at Wistar, as well as external collaborators.

In addition to submitting the online application, please submit a cover letter outlining research interests, a curriculum vitae, and contact details of three letters of references to Dr. Ami Patel, apatel@wistar.org.

The Wistar Institute is located in the University City area of Philadelphia, in the heart of the University of Pennsylvania Campus.
