About Vaccine R&D As vaccine development has advanced, new types of vaccines have arisen, presenting challenges in characterization and further linking characteristics to function. However, recent development of vaccines against current pandemics or more complex diseases such as has met difficulties. In addition, the gaps in our knowledge on protective responses against pathogens are a significant barrier to ideal vaccine design and are often associated with increased risk of clinical failure. What is Vaccines Scientific Leaders Program? The Scientific Leaders Program in Vaccines is a 2-year global program which builds a pipeline of scientists with the right expertise, technical capabilities and behaviors to drive the future in Vaccines Research and Development. How does the Vaccines Scientific leaders Program work? You will spend two years working on a key development project, contributing to key strategic areas of our Vaccines R&D business. Working on challenging projects will provide you with in-depth knowledge of the ways in which Science and Technology is being applied across R&D in GSK. This is a scientific/technical leadership position where you will be empowered to be innovative, collaborative, decisive and bold to solve novel R&D problems. On completion of the 2-year program we aim to bring you on-board into available technical leadership roles that best suits business' needs and your abilities. We need Scientific leaders to help embed modern Scientific principles and ways of working within the vaccines R&D organization. You will do this through: Project Title: Advanced RNA Delivery Vehicle Research with High-Throughput Automation Project proposal: Lipid nanoparticles (LNP) delivery vehicles have contributed to the RNA technology revolution in healthcare and break-through advances in vaccine development. This project will explore the design space of LNP design and performance by using automation and high-throughput process and characterization solutions to broaden the design space and application of LNPs to facilitate the use of diverse RNA libraries in research programs. Responsibilities: As a member of the Technical Research and Development Team working on RNA technologies, you will bring principles of automation to explore the design space of LNP components and compositions that would be leveraged in optimization LNP for in vitro and in vivo applications. Explore the design space of lipid nanoparticle components and composition Broaden application and use of RNA technologies across in vitro and in vivo applications Deepen automation and formulation capabilities within the GSK R&D site in Rockville, MD To be successful in this role you should have: PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering or equivalent discipline related to formulation sciences Practical understanding of nucleic acid delivery demonstrated by leading research activities that have resulted in publication in leading peer-reviewed scientific journals Strong expertise in computational methodologies linked to design of experiment and automation. Experience with MatLab, Python, C, or equivalent programing language. Experience with a liquid handling robot, such as the Tecan EVO would be a strong plus. The ability to deal with complexity. Have strong problem-solving and self-directional abilities. Excellent interpersonnel skills Excellent written and oral communication skills.
