Role Summary
We are seeking a laboratory support specialist (LSS) in Chemical Research and Development in Groton, CT. The role of laboratory support specialist is to provide lab support to the Chemical Research and Development laboratories and staff. A successful candidate in this role can expect to interact with the department's 100+ scientists and technicians. We are looking for a candidate who is organized, change-agile and a fast learner. This role's day to day functions can be divided into administrative and lab-based responsibilities, examples are listed below.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Must-Have
H.S. Diploma or equivalent with additional field related education preferably (see nice-to-have qualifications) and 0-2 years experience OR 1-3 years of experience in chemistry laboratory roles or API Manufacturing operations with some experience in a laboratory setting.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Field related education such as Chemical or Process Technology Certificate, or an A.S. in Chemistry or related scientific field
Microsoft Excel, inventory management, customer service, chemistry lab familiarity
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
This position will support the entire department's lab operations, so there will be a broad range of interactions with colleagues from various lines within CRD. This position will interact with GWS staff and external vendors to resolve equipment related issues.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Role requires the ability to lift approximately 20 pounds and involves substantial walking around the site. Additional administrative and lab-based tasks for this role will be evaluated on a rolling basis.
NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
Limited overtime may be needed for this role. No travel expected for this role.

Administrative:
- Ordering and stocking of lab consumables from onsite and external sources
- Organizing the shipment of pharmaceutical samples or equipment including completing required paperwork and related documentation such as safety data sheet generation, valuation of material, etc.
- Organizing the submission of samples to the compound storage bank (Neat stores) including registration of samples
- Coordinating service technician visits for preventative maintenance and/or repair of lab equipment
- Raising purchase orders for non-catalogue items and glassware/equipment repairs
- Decommissioning and decontamination of lab and computer equipment prior to disposal
- Maintain capital equipment lists for lab spaces
- Manage surplus lab equipment for the department including the chiller swap program
Lab-based:
- Preparing and distributing mobile phases for analytical equipment (hands-on lab work)
- Removing samples from analytical equipment at scheduled times
- Periodic cleaning of analytical equipment
- Transferring compounds to bar-coded vials for submission of samples to the compound storage bank
