Research Scientist in Developmental and Stem Cell Biology

A full-time Associate Researcher position (equivalent to Research Assistant or Research Scientist) is available immediately in the Tisch Cancer Institute (Division of Hematology-Oncology) and Department of Cell, Developmental and Regenerative Biology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
 

Aims of the position:
The laboratory investigates two major areas: (1) function of circadian rhythm genes and genes involved in immune responses in blood cell production and regeneration; and (2) WNT pathway signaling and how it regulates red blood cell progenitor growth; and.  We use genetic mouse models, primary human progenitor cells, and molecular, cell biological, biochemical analyses. amd computational approaches in our research.

The successful candidate will work closely with a senior member of the lab as well as other members of the group. This individual must be highly motivated, have good communication skills, and keep excellent records. It is important that she/he can work efficiently as part of a team. Within this context, the work will involve research leading to authorship on resulting publications. Possibility of independent research project for qualified individuals.

Job Description:
The successful candidate will be involved in a diverse array of routine laboratory activities, with a core focus on: (1) cell culture and molecular and biochemical and cellular analysis of such cultures using flow cytometry, RT-PCR, and other approaches;  (2) handling of laboratory mice, genotyping, and tracking of mouse colonies. Training will be provided as needed.  The successful candidate will also aid in general lab organization, re-stocking common reagents and solutions and maintaining lab databases.

Requirements:
Highly motivated, responsible individual with a B.S. in Biomedical Sciences (or equivalent). At least 1 year of relevant work experience in a research lab is required, preferably on an independent project such as for a senior honors thesis. A commitment of at least 2 years is required.
