Associate Director, Outreach and Strategic Partnerships, Asia

Science/AAAS is looking for Associate Director, Outreach and Strategic Partnerships, Asia to join our team in Beijing to lead the Science/AAAS outreach activities and develop strategic partnerships throughout China and other parts of Asia. The territories in order of importance are China, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, including other developing countries such as Laos, Cambodia, and Indonesia.

This position will be based in Beijing, China with the option of teleworking. The role will require travel throughout China and potential for 40-50% travel within Asia. The travel also includes visits to the Washington DC office and can include attendance at relevant professional meetings.

Job Description/Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a strategic plan for Partnerships and outreach/engagement with the Publisher and Director of Global Collaborations
  • Strategic partnering with VP’s Of International Cooperation and VP and Presidents at universities, associations, and the scientific community within in Asia to develop outreach, partnerships, and MOU’s
  • Work with Director of Global Collaborations to develop a sustainable budget for outreach events
  • Develop and coordinate with the Director of Global Collaborations to develop and deliver outreach events at universities with the goals of increasing usage of Science journals and building overall awareness of Science journals to potential authors
  • Work with the editors to develop Editorial Outreach events for visiting editors and site visits.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Global Collaboration to host VIP staff from DC headquarters and Cambridge headquarters including editorial board members
  • Maintain and develop network of partners within China's scientific research community as well continuing to develop strong ties with key decision-makers in government, academia and corporations across Asia.
  • Work with international cooperation and marketing team to develop promotional materials for the scientific market in China and other parts of Asia to further improve image and awareness for the Science family of journals
  • Seek out potential partners for scientific meetings based in Asia
  • Develop educational content and trainings delivery on publishing, technical writing and career development for researchers
  • Support sales and other internal staff in China-based office with tasks requiring scientific knowledge

Requirements:

  • PhD degree required in science
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Mandarin
  • Outstanding public speaking/presentation skills, interpersonal, oral/written communication skills.
  • Personal experience of research papers/reviews published in international journals, and/or reviewer
  • A working knowledge of universities, research institutions and STM journal publishing in China
  • Ability to work with colleagues in Beijing and other offices and across teams to ensure that mutual goals are met
  • Knowledge of Chinese social media
