The Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer (IRIC) in partnership with the Faculty of Medicine of the Université de Montréal (UdeM) invites applications for the position of Scientific Director and Principal Investigator at the Institute. The successful candidate will also be appointed as a professor in the Faculty of Medicine of UdeM.

IRIC's primary goals are to elucidate the biological processes that contribute to cancer, to identify groundbreaking avenues in the development of effective therapies, and to train tomorrow's scientists. IRIC is:

  • 29 Principal Investigators
  • Over 450 graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, research associates and support staff
  • A collegial, dynamic, curiosity-driven research environment
  • A state-of-the-art building on the main campus of UdeM
  • 10 cutting edge core facilities, including the only integrated academic drug discovery unit in the country and one of the largest animal facilities in Canada

IRIC seeks an established scientist with an exceptional track-record who will oversee the scientific development of the institute while leading his/her own basic and/or translational research program in cancer-relevant areas including, but not limited to: stem cells, immunology, cell signaling, cell migration, cell division and cell cycle control, epigenetics, transcriptional/post-transcriptional control. Experimental paradigms could include, but are not limited to: model organisms (mouse, fly, worm, yeast, etc.), computational modeling based on machine learning/AI, single-cell and single-molecule analysis, functional genomics and proteomics, metabolomics, systems biology, structural and chemical biology.

As Scientific Director and member of the faculty, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the promotion of excellence at IRIC and your home faculty and department. You will be expected to:

  • Contribute to IRIC's strategic plan and help chart the future scientific orientations of the institute;
  • Supervise the recruitment of principal investigators and support their career progression;
  • Coordinate the development of major research infrastructures and define the policy for their use;
  • Form the various scientific committees and lead the scientific life of IRIC;
  • Oversee the academic affairs of IRIC;
  • Participate in the preparation of the budget;
  • Supervise undergraduate and/or graduate students;
  • Participate in the academic and para-academic activities of the university.

To be successful in this role, you must:

  • Hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree (or equivalent);
  • Have a distinguished scientific record and an excellent publication dossier;
  • Have demonstrated leadership experience in an academic environment;
  • Be interested in a collegial management approach characterized by the ability for consensus building;
  • Have the ability to communicate effectively and motivate employees;
  • Be visionary while demonstrating pragmatism.
