NIH-funded Postdoctoral Research Associate position(s) is/are available immediately in Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at University of Maryland Eastern Shore School of Pharmacy (UMES SOP) for outstanding candidate(s) interested in cancer biology or translational cancer research. Our laboratory is interested in identification of the RNA risk elements (aberrant RNA splice variants and deregulated microRNAs) in cancers, and aims to study how these oncogenic RNA splice variants or microRNAs contribute to the cancer aggressiveness and drug resistance (see Nature Communications 8:15921, Cancers 10. Pii: E458, Clin. Cancer Res. 21:4970-4984, Mol. Cancer Res. 17:2115-2125, Surgery 170:1160-1167). We have a particular focus on the functional impacts of these oncogenic splice variants/microRNAs in activation of PI3K/AKT/mTOR and VEGF signaling pathways. Our work encompasses a wide range of in vitro and in vivo experimental techniques including gene expression, protein biochemistry, signaling transduction, gene knockdown, cell-based functional assays, mouse xenograft, immunohistology, genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, drug screening and interrogation of clinical samples. We are also involved in several genetic/pharmacological efforts to develop precision biomarkers and novel therapeutic targets for cancers. UMES SOP is a highly collaborative environment and our laboratory is involved in collaborations with multiple other research programs within the scientific community including programs in systems biology, high-throughput drug discovery, cancer pathology and pharmacology. This postdoctoral fellow will be trained through a collaborative program by PIs at UMES SOP, University of Maryland Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center (UMGCCC) and Diet, Genomics and Immunology Laboratory at USDA. We are also actively engaged in translating our laboratory-derived findings into clinical setting conducted at the UMGCCC. We provide an excellent research/career development environment, and competitive salary and fringe benefits. Highly motivated candidates with a PhD or MD degree and a strong background in molecular biology and cancer biology please send CV to Dr. Peter Wang at bwang@umes.edu
