Kidney-liver Physiology and Pharmacology
A Postdoctoral fellow position is available in the Laboratory of Cardiovascular Physiology and Tissue Injury (LCPTI), National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA). The LCPTI focuses on understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in the development of cardiac, renal, and hepatic dysfunction in various pathologies using therapeutically relevant animal disease models, and on identification of novel therapeutic targets to counteract these pathologies (Nat Rev Cardiol. 2021 Feb;18(2):117-135; Hepatology. 2018 Oct;68(4):1519-1533; Free Radic Biol Med. 2020 May 20;152:540-550; J Hepatol. 2017 Mar;66(3):589-600; Gastroenterology. 2013 Apr;144(4):808-817)
The candidate will work on scientific projects exploring the molecular mechanisms involved in the development of renal dysfunction of various etiology (e.g induced by chronic liver disease, ureter ligation, I/R-induced injury), also using a new animal models of hepatorenal syndrome, and in testing novel therapeutic agents in these pathologies developed in collaboration with the industry.
NIH has excellent training opportunities in a highly supportive and collaborative environment.
We are seeking highly motivated and collaborative individuals with demonstrated productivity. Applicants must hold an M.D. or Ph.D or both with 0 to 5 years of postdoctoral experience after the last degree.
Strong background in renal and hepatic physiology and pathology and small animal surgery is required. Experience in molecular biology techniques, immunology, lipid metabolism would also be desirable.
The position is open to both U.S. non-U.S. citizens, and fully supported by NIH intramural funds. The qualified candidates should have good oral and written communication skills. Successful candidates will be offered a stipend commensurate with experience as well as health insurance, as per NIH regulations.
Candidates should submit by e-mail a current CV with emphasis of research background and skills, a statement of career goals, and contract information of 3 references to: firstname.lastname@example.org
