Group Leader

PI position at the Hubrecht Institute at the senior or junior level

We welcome senior group leaders who have run their own lab to apply, as well as junior group leaders who have some years of experience as post-doc after obtaining their PhD and are ready to start their own lab.

The Institute
The Hubrecht Institute, a research institute of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), focuses on research in the field of developmental and stem cell biology. The Hubrecht performs fundamental research, which also provides insight into diseases, such as cancer and diabetes. The Hubrecht comprises a team of 20 group leaders with various, multidisciplinary expertise. The institute is affiliated with the University Medical Centre Utrecht (UMC Utrecht) since 2008 and has a partnership with EMBL in Heidelberg. The Hubrecht Institute is housed at the Utrecht Science Park. The institute was founded in 1916.

Research environment
The Hubrecht offers an international and highly dynamic scientific environment. For many years, the Hubrecht is an internationally recognized world-class research institute. The organization has a flat organizational structure with an informal and collaborative atmosphere. Scientific groups are supported by administrative and scientific facilities.

Research infrastructure and support
The Hubrecht offers group leaders plenty of support and space for setting up and carrying out research in a creative and innovative environment. Researchers get access to state-of-the-art facilities, including laboratory space, advanced microscopy and FACS, single-cell sequencing and animal facilities. The research infrastructure and support that is provided aims to facilitate full focus on scientific research at the highest level.

Function of the candidate group leader
You will lead a research group at the Hubrecht Institute. You will run your group with scientific independence. Your research group will contribute to and/or complement the overall goal of the Hubrecht Institute to strengthen its unique position nationally and internationally as a center of excellence in developmental biology and stem cell research.

Given the international background of the Hubrecht Institute, we are very interested in international candidates. As it is our ambition to be a diverse and inclusive institute, we especially invite female scientists to apply. We welcome scientists with a scientific background complementary to developmental biology and stem cell research (mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer science) to apply.

We offer

  • A tenured position for senior group leaders, or
  • A tenure track position for junior group leaders.
  • Competitive salary and fringe benefits, eg. flexible working arrangements, relocation package, financial incentives.
