Several NIH-funded postdoctoral positions are available at the University of Michigan Medical School, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Research projects cover a broad area of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and fatty liver disease, and are centered on adipose (white and brown fat) and liver biology and hypothalamic control of body weight and metabolism. At the molecular level, we investigate histone modifications and epigenetic reprogramming in adipocytes, hepatocytes, and hypothalamic neurons, and study how epigenetic modifications govern behavior of these cells in health and disease. We are interested in epitranscriptomics (RNA modifications/metabolism, RNA binding protein, and their functions) in fat, liver, and hypothalamus, focusing on RNA methyltransferases (METTL3, METTL14, TRMT10A) and m6A-dependent RNA-binding proteins (YTHDC1, YTHDF2). We explore novel inflammatory pathways and delineate their contributions to obesity and metabolic disease. Conditional knockout mice are routinely used to model human diseases. Various state-of-the-art techniques and methods are used to interrogate cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying obesity, diabetes, and liver disease.
