ROLE SUMMARY

Pfizer's BioMedicine Design Biotherapeutic Expression and Purification group (BEP) is seeking a candidate to join their team. The candidate will play an essential role in a high-energy RNA production research laboratory. The production group is responsible for non-GMP material generation, supporting the various Pfizer research units and their pre-clinical therapeutic in-vitro and in-vivo needs. The candidate will be responsible for in-vitro transcription (IVT), purification and characterization of mRNA products through the use of state-of-the-art technologies and equipment. The candidate will contribute to the group wide deliverables and be required to work on several projects simultaneously presenting results and updates at group meetings.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop efficient IVT & purification protocols for novel RNA therapeutic candidates
  • Provide highly-purified candidates to discovery project teams
  • Drive technology innovation; design, suggest and/or implement strategies to increase throughput and/or efficiency
  • Work closely with peers to meet deadlines and project goals
  • Effectively troubleshoot technical issues
  • Independently perform experiments using a wide-range of enzyme-driven reactions, chromatographic, analytical techniques
  • Maintain high quality lab notebook and demonstrate effective record-keeping
  • Present work to the BEP group and project teams
  • Knowledge of chemical reactions
  • Ability to multitask
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in preparative and analytical chromatography methods
  • mass spectrometry, ELISA, SDS-PAGE gel, endotoxin assay, 260/280 measurements, agarose gel, fragment analyzer


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • PhD in Biochemistry, Biology, Biomedical Sciences or a related discipline with 1-3 years of relevant experience along with an understanding of RNA therapeutic production
  • Understanding and experience with IVT, RNA capping & purification
  • Enzymatic reactions
  • DNA/RNA handling/precipitation
  • Experience with affinity, SEC, IEX, HIC and various chromatography techniques
  • Agarose gel/fragment analyzer
  • Experience or knowledge in the operation of AKTA (LC) and Agilent (HPLC) chromatography systems
  • Strong communication skills, written and oral
  • Can execute experiments independently
  • Works well as part of a team
  • Creative/flexible thinking
