Position Summary:

Under the supervision of Dr. Heather McGee, the Research Associate II (RAII) will perform a variety of research experiments that involve tumor cell lines/ tissue culture, mouse tumor models and patient tumor and blood specimens. The RAII should be interested in reading scientific articles, contributing original ideas to the laboratory research; compiling reports of laboratory experiments and results; standardizing new techniques and training other staff on these techniques.

Immunology skills that will be used in the lab include harvesting murine tumors, using flow cytometry to characterize immune cell populations, isolating immune cell populations via cell sorting, adoptively transferring immune populations, performing single cell RNA sequencing, and analyzing data using Flow Jo and Prism software.

The McGee lab will span basic and translational science in a collaborative, interdisciplinary, and dynamic environment that values initiative, communication, professionalism, and teamwork. Dr. McGee is eager to mentor young scientists of all backgrounds who want to go on to develop a productive career in academic medicine or science and will provide career opportunities to help the RAII achieve his/her career goals.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Utilize established protocols to perform a variety of research experiments, both in vitro (in cancer cell lines and human tissues from patients with cancer) and in vivo (in murine models). Record and validate results for accuracy and completeness.
• Develop techniques and expertise in natural killer cell and innate lymphoid cell biology relevant to the laboratory's research projects.
• Maintain thorough and accurate records of methodology and results. Analyze, compile, and graph data to present at lab meetings.
• Ensure that all laboratory activities are carried out in compliance with safety procedures and guidelines.
• There may be opportunities for the RAII to participate in future clinical and translational studies, pending IRB approval.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

• A Bachelor's degree with 2 years of experience or Master's with 1 year of experience is required
• Experience with cell culture and murine models is desired.
• Experience with flow cytometry for innate lymphoid cells and/or molecular biology is desired.
• A desire to work in a collaborative, interdisciplinary lab environment that values communication, initiative, professionalism and teamwork.

• Dr. McGee's research is currently supported by an NIH R00 grant from the National Cancer Institute and a generous start-up package from City of Hope.
• Research findings from Dr. McGee and colleagues have been published in Nature , Nature Communications , Clinical Cancer Research , Journal of Immunology , Journal for Immunotherapy of Cancer , International Journal of Radiation Oncology* Biology* and Physics , and numerous other journals.
