The Center for Integrated Solutions to Infectious Diseases (CISID) brings together the Broad Institute, Mass General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Boston Children’s Hospital as a scientific community with world-leading investigators, technologies, and networks to transform our understanding of human infection and immunity, thereby impacting the diagnosis and management of patients with infection. CISID integrates with clinics and hospitals to elucidate the complex interactions of pathogens and the human host, yielding a more accurate understanding of the numerous factors that determine disease manifestation, severity, progression, prognosis, and outcome.

The CISID Fellows program at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard provides an opportunity for exceptional scientists with an exciting and innovative scientific vision to develop an independent research program, fostering the rapid development of new scientific leaders and transformative approaches. The Fellowship Program will become an important part of the CISID’s mission to develop new ways of studying and treating infectious diseases by empowering the next generation of researchers.

Call for applicants
CISID is recruiting young and exceptional scientists in the area of microbiology, immunology, and infectious disease in the new CISID Fellows program at the Broad Institute. CISID Fellows develop and/or apply new transformative strategies – experimental and/or computational – to tackle major challenges in infectious disease. Fellows may come from a variety of backgrounds, including biology, chemistry, microbiology, immunology, chemical biology, and computational biology. We are particularly interested in recruiting Fellows with broad scientific interests, a collaborative spirit, and a passion for transforming biomedical research to accelerate the understanding and treatment of infectious disease – the principle at the heart of the CISID’s mission. Fellows will be fully immersed in the Broad and its broader scientific communities, including CISID’s partner academic hospitals, and will benefit from dedicated mentorship, a supportive community and outstanding facilities.

Fellowship support
Fellows will have full access to the Broad Institute and CISID at the collaborating hospitals, and will be encouraged to leverage each institution’s strengths. Fellows are encouraged to develop connections and work together with CISID faculty members, platforms, and the entire community - combining their expertise to solve problems.

CISID will provide resources for fellows to establish their own independent research program. Fellowship funding provides salary support for the Fellow and a small research team as well as research expenses for 3 years and spaces to undertake projects designed to attract further funding from federal grants or other sources. CISID Fellows receive Broad appointments and are eligible for full Broad benefits.

Eligibility
Applicants should have an MD, PhD or MD/PhD degree, completed or with an anticipated completion date of June 2022. Applicants may also be in a postdoctoral fellow or medical resident position, but typically no more than three years beyond graduation from their highest degree.

A track record of scientific excellence and creativity along with a strong vision and compelling research direction are key factors for selection. In addition, a successful candidate will wish to deeply benefit from and contribute to the synergistic and collaborative environment of CISID and its partner institutions.

CISID is especially interested in receiving applications from historically underrepresented candidates, including women and ethnic minorities.

Application format
A complete application should contain:

● Cover Letter

● Curriculum Vitae

● Research Statement

● Three Publication(s)

● Three Reference Letters (to be submitted online by the reference writers)

Applications should be submitted to https://academicprogramsonline.org/ajo/jobs/19974

Selection process
