Staff Associate I

The Division of Preventive Medicine in the Department of Medicine at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center invites applications for a Staff Associate I position.  The Staff Associate I will be working on a project to identify a specific molecular defect that causes abnormal cholesterol metabolism in cells that have a mutation in the gene for TM6SF2. A mutation in this gene has been shown to cause fatty liver in people, but no one had previously identified a specific abnormality in cholesterol metabolism due to a mutant form or the absence of TM6SF2. The Staff Associate I will carry out studies in cultured IPSC cells using a variety of genetic, molecular, biochemical, immune‐histologic, and immunoassay approaches.

Qualifications: Bachelor of Science degree is required.  4 years of related experience in lipid and lipoprotein metabolism. Knowledge of or experience with tissue culture, biochemical, immunologic and genetic measurements in cells, transfection of cells, microscopy including confocal methods.
