The Professorship is located at the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel (www.geomar.de) and is assigned to the Research Unit “Marine Meteorology” within the Research Division “Ocean Circulation and Climate Dynamics”.

We are looking for a dynamic and team oriented candidate with an excellent and internationally recognized research profile in the field of meteorology with connections to ocean and climate research. The candidate has an excellent track record and/or a vision for innovative research in one or more of the following areas: Measurement and remote sensing, modelling and diagnosis of ocean-atmospheric interactions; understanding the processes of atmosphere dynamics and physics in the tropo- and stratosphere; analyzing atmospheric climatic fluctuations including extreme events; further development of atmospheric components of earth system models; data science; seagoing research. The candidate can build her/his research on the established cooperation between the modelling and observing ocean- and climate working groups in the research division. Furthermore, we are expecting the willingness for interdisciplinary cooperation with the other research divisions at GEOMAR and Kiel Marine Sciences.

The Professorship is connected with an assignment to GEOMAR. This assignment comes along with a reduced amount of teaching duties, which would have to be provided at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Kiel University. It is expected that classes are being held in English. Non-German speaking candidates are expected to acquire German language skills and to teach some courses in German after three years at the latest.
