A progressive scientific platform has enabled VHC to build a pipeline of innovative therapies including 2 drug regimens (2DR), long acting (LA) injectables for both treatment and prevention, drugs for heavily treatment experienced patients, and pediatric formulations, fulfilling the VHC wider mission, to leave no person living with, or at risk of HIV left behind. The core purpose of Medicine Development Leader (MDL) role is large scale, strategic leadership of the Medicine Development Team (MDT) and extended partners. The MDL is the most senior leader and asset owner on an MDT, and is accountable for development of strategy, overall delivery and effective resource management (including budget), through effective leadership of the multidisciplinary project team, for a medicine or medicines in development. The MDL can also sometimes be referred to Early Development Leader (EDL) depending on the stage of development of the asset or compound. MDLs must balance the broad strategy and vision of the organization with leading a multi-disciplinary, matrix reporting MDT across ViiV, GSK, and other partner organizations, not just within R&D but also extending outside ViiV, GSK or Pfizer. They are a key architect, accountable for defining the global strategy (including regulatory and payer access), obtaining and managing the overall budget, and the successful delivery for a given medicine. They act as a single point of accountability in ViiV for all aspects of a medicine globally, across the lifecycle, typically from POC/C2MD to file, launch and reimbursement through to patent expiry. This candidate may also be asked to start leading a program earlier in drug development. Job Responsibilities Leads the multi-functional global Medicine Development Team (MDT) responsible for delivery of an asset Proactively direct medicine development strategy and plans for products from Proof of Concept/Commit to Medicine Development to file, launch, reimbursement through to patent expiry, aligned with the Medicine Vision Delivers reimbursable files (including payer access strategy) through leadership of the MDT Contributes to the development of the regional and global strategy for products Interface with Senior Management, internal key stakeholders and external stakeholders to articulate and drive the Medicine Development Strategy Interface with other key functions during the development program such as Commercial to ensure alignment on strategy and project delivery timelines Manages prioritisation of asset's development options to effectively manage the budget Utilizes organizational channels, experience and influencing skills to facilitate successful project progression and effective issue resolution Accountability Accountable for the creation and maintenance of a clear and detailed medicine development strategy. Is the focal point for the development activities of an asset throughout the organization. Accountable for the creation of an integrated asset development plan through leadership of the MDT on a multi-disciplinary and global level Accountable for creation and maintenance of overall project budget. Responsible for representing the MDT at milestone and other key internal reviews at governance boards within ViiV such as VET, PIC, VSLC and within GSK such as SRB and PIB, as appropriate Responsible for influencing integrated multi-disciplinary project activities at a variety of levels, including technical, operational and strategic Responsible for representing ViiV, on behalf of his or her project, and interacting with senior external groups and leaders in the HIV field including but not limited to NIH, DAIDS, ACTG, HPTN, IMPAACT, PENTA, B&MGF, USAID, and PEPFAR, particularly in relation to pediatrics, prevention and other public health issues associated with the HIV epidemic. Basic Qualifications: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: Physician (MD or DO), PhD, or PharmD with clinical fellowship OR research experience in Infectious Diseases 5 plus years of drug development OR clinical trials experience Experience in establishing and executing an entire drug development strategy, from proof of concept to post-marketing Experience in presenting scientific data to internal key stakeholders and external audiences Preferred Qualifications: If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus: Effective communication skills Good interpersonal relationship building/maintenance Expertise in early development experience (Phase1 to Phase 2a) is a consideration for the optimal candidate 10 plus years of drug development OR clinical trials experience Experience in HIV drug development Excellent leadership experience in a matrix environment Understanding of pharmaceutical job development Why ViiV Healthcare?
