What You Will Achieve

Pfizer Oncology R&D is working to change the trajectory of cancer by translating breakthrough discoveries in cancer research into the best medicines imaginable for patients. The newly formed Tumor Fitness & Evolution group is focused on applying the latest scientific knowledge and novel approaches to discover truly innovative therapies for patients. We are seeking a Senior Associate Scientist at the BS/MS level who is passionate about cancer biology and wants to make an impactful contribution in understanding and targeting mechanisms of cell plasticity and drug resistance. Your job responsibilities will include performing and documenting lab-based research, employing critical thinking to design and interpret experiments, and communicating research findings to managers and relevant colleagues. As you work on projects, you will gain exposure to the broad Pfizer organization and learn from collaborations with cross-functional teams.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Design and execute key experiments to address the basic and translational biology of novel drug targets, their molecular pathways, and their connection to human disease
  • Develop tools for advancing group projects, including cell models of disease (2D/3D), CRISPR technologies, characterization of small molecule inhibitors, and biomarkers
  • Perform functional assays such as proliferation readouts, biomarker analysis using qPCR, western blots, high-content imaging, and flow cytometry
  • Collaborate with colleagues within and across departments to help advance projects
  • Effectively communicate experiment results to team


Qualifications

Must-Have
  • B.S. in Cell or Molecular Biology (or a comparable biological science) with minimum of 3+ years relevant post-degree experience or MS with 0+ years of experience
  • Past research activities in areas of tumor biology, such as therapeutic resistance, epigenetics, DNA damage/repair, or oncogenic driver signaling
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture and genetic modulation (CRISPR, siRNA/shRNA, and/or lentivirus)
  • Experience performing cell-based assays to assess target modulation and measure downstream signaling pathways, for example: qRT-PCR, Western blotting, ELISA, ChIP, multi-color flow cytometry, or immunofluorescence.
  • Enthusiasm to learn new technologies and proactively engage with colleagues
  • Excellent organization and planning skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment independently or as part of a team, good verbal and written communication, and strong motivation with a dedicated work ethic


Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with GraphPad Prism, DepMap, cBioPortal, UCSC Genome Browser
  • Drug discovery experience


PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to wear standard laboratory PPE (lab coat/safety shoes/glasses/etc.) and perform lifting of items (less than 10 lbs)
