What You Will Achieve

Pfizer Viral Vaccines department in Pearl River, NY is seeking a motivated scientist to join the biochemistry and structural biology team supporting the vaccine development portfolio. Responsibilities will be driving therapeutic innovation through contributing to the viral vaccine development, including hands-on execution of molecular biology, protein expression, protein purification, mRNA and LNP tasks. Strong hands-on experience on purification techniques and biochemistry knowledge will be key to this position. The successful incumbent will be highly proficient in the expression and purification of protein antigens. Working experience with mRNA and LNP is highly desired but not required. The incumbent will be contributing to the group effort of a dynamic team to advance the vaccine development and should possess a strong work ethic and collaborative spirit.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Perform protein and biologic purification (affinity chromatography, SEC, ion exchange, gravity or chromatography model) and characterization (SDS-PAGE, endotoxin, Western Blot, binding assays)
  • Design and perform molecular cloning including PCR, cloning and plasmid purification.
  • Present and submit data to the supervisor/manager for review in the form of summaries or technical reports, and verbally present experimental results at group meetings as needed.
  • Document and summarize experimental data in compliance with the Pfizer Laboratory Notebook Policy.
  • Strong motivation, passion and commitment to science and engineering of novel entities.
  • Ability and desire to work in an interdisciplinary scientific team and the desire to learn new techniques.
  • The ability to work closely with other group members within and outside viral vaccines is essential.
  • Complete all safety and quality training in compliance with department and company requirements.


QUALIFICATIONS

Must-Have
  • Non-PhD position. Degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemical engineering, Structural biology, or a related scientific field.
  • MS with 4+ years of research experience, or BS with 6+ years of full-time laboratory research experience.
  • Laboratory hands-on experience with purification techniques.
  • Laboratory hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques.
  • Detail oriented with problem solving skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and a team player in a cross-functional collaborative environment.


Nice-to-Have
  • Industry experience in drug or vaccine development
  • Protein analytical techniques such as SPR, Octet or protein stability analysis.


PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Lifting, sitting, standing, walking, bending, ability to perform mathematical calculations and ability to perform complex data analysis tasks.
  • Ability to handle infectious agents following protocol.
