What You Will Achieve

The qualified candidate will be joining the Biomedicine Design (BMD) organization to contribute to the discovery of biological therapeutics in Cambridge, MA. As an Associate Scientist, the candidate will be a member of a team that develops and executes high-throughput assays for biotherapeutics, using our suite of automation equipment. Job responsibilities include running cell-based and biochemical assays, analyzing and presenting data, and, with the mentorship of senior scientists, developing and troubleshooting robotic liquid-handling routines. The qualified candidate is a highly motivated, interactive and creative individual who possesses the ability to work across a highly matrixed environment to advance drug development programs. The candidate will be expected to effectively collaborate with colleagues across antibody discovery and engineering groups. The successful candidate will demonstrate clear and professional verbal and written communication and be capable of presenting scientific results to multidisciplinary teams. Candidates are expected to have familiarity with automation platforms or an eager attitude to learn.

Role Responsibilities:
  • Work both independently and as part of a collaborative team to plan and execute assay development that supports early antibody discovery for biotherapeutic programs.
  • Conduct high-throughput antibody assays using a variety of automated liquid handling and detection platforms, including an integrated Thermo system.
  • With training, develop and troubleshoot automation protocols.
  • Maintain detailed records of experimental protocols and data in laboratory notebooks and communicate results with project teams.

  • Bachelor's Degree in biochemistry, cell biology, chemical engineering, or related field with 0-3 years of industry experience and/or training in general techniques used in biochemical and molecular biology (centrifugation, buffer preparation, sterile techniques).
  • Basic understanding of good practices for molecular biology techniques.
  • Understanding of biochemical assays that generate fluorescent signals.
  • Familiarity with or interest in operating lab automation equipment (e.g. Thermo or other liquid handling systems) with keen interest in continuous improvement of data workflow curation.
  • Ability to carefully analyze data and communicate results effectively.
  • Strong computational skills.

  • Ability to follow SOPs to carry out biochemical and cellular binding assays. Experience with methods such as ELISA, fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry a plus.
  • Passion for automation and an interest in learning Python scripting.
