Penn State York invites applications for a faculty position, Lecturer/Assistant Professor of Biology. This is a full time, 36-weeks, non-tenure-line, limited-term (multi-year) contract with possibility for renewal to begin August 2022, or as negotiated.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach undergraduate biology and related courses. Undergraduate programs offered include baccalaureate degrees in biology and in general science, and the first two years of other science programs. The successful applicant is expected to participate in course, curriculum, and program development; advise students; provide career guidance; participate in campus, University, and community service activities; and engage in activities to stay current in one's discipline. Commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment is expected. Interest in active and collaborative learning, the instructional use of technology, and hybrid and online teaching is an advantage. Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment is important.
QUALIFICATIONS: This position will be filled as either a Lecturer or an Assistant Teaching Professor. A masters in biology or related field is required to be considered for the rank of Lecturer. Applicants that hold a Ph.D. in biology or related field will be considered for rank of Assistant Teaching Professor. The successful applicant will teach both semesters of the first-year classes that support the biology major. In addition, the successful candidate will teach lower- and upper-division courses in their specialty that support the biology major and/or fulfill the University's General Education requirements. Applicants must have an extensive background in research and/or teaching in either botany/plant physiology or animal physiology.

Penn State York is located in southcentral Pennsylvania, approximately two hours from Washington, DC or Philadelphia. The campus rests on 51 acres, overlooking the historic city of York. Students and faculty at Penn State York have all of the resources of a major research university at their disposal, but in a small college atmosphere. Class sizes are small and the student/faculty ratio is low, so students can receive much individual attention. Our faculty members are committed to providing a high-quality educational experience to their students and are actively engaged in research. Our students receive a world-class education delivered in a small campus setting and have many opportunities to participate in undergraduate research projects supervised by faculty members.
