POSTDOCTORAL POSITION AVAILABLE:

A funded postdoctoral position is available in the Laboratories of Jeffery Kelly and Kristen Johnson at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California, USA, to work on the role of proteostasis in diseases of aging and neurodegeneration.   Our lab has performed HT screens in collaboration with Calibr, the drug discovery arm of TSRI, using lipid droplet clearance to identify small molecules that activate autophagy, and we are now characterizing their mechanisms of action and cellular targets in the context of disease-relevant models of neurodegeneration.   We are committed to the development of new therapeutic strategies and to educating graduate students and postdoctoral associates to become successful, independent scientists in both academia and biotech/pharmaceutical research.  We provide a diverse and collaborative research environment where scientists with distinct backgrounds can come together and share their collective expertise and experiences to drive forward both individual and team-based scientific projects.  The postdoctoral associate will have full access to the extensive imaging and screening infrastructure, capabilities, and expertise available at Calibr.

The Scripps Research Institute is located in beautiful La Jolla, California, and is one of the world’s largest, private, non-profit research organizations that stands at the forefront of basic biomedical and translational science. The institute provides world-class resources and a cooperative, collaborative environment, which promotes the outstanding discoveries made here.

ABOUT THE APPLICANT:

1. You are about to complete your PhD or have completed your PhD in cell biology, genetics, neurobiology, molecular biology, chemical biology or related field.

2. Highly motivated, with outstanding written and oral communication skills, and with available or pending peer-reviewed publication(s).

3. Research experience with cell biology and biological imaging, preferably confocal imaging.

Interested candidates please send your CV, a brief statement of your previous research expertise/research interests, and the contact information of three referees to Jeffery Kelly at jkelly@scripps.edu. For more information also please consult our website at https://www.scripps.edu/kelly/
