The Department of Biological Sciences (www.bio.udel.edu) at the University of Delaware (UD) invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor-level position in Musculoskeletal Research that can include, but is not limited to, molecular, cellular, and developmental mechanisms of musculoskeletal structure and function, pathogenesis of musculoskeletal disorders, and/or strategies for therapeutic intervention, and can span a range of length scales from organism to molecule. Candidates using cutting-edge approaches to address fundamental questions in musculoskeletal biology, including cell and developmental biology, cellular biomechanics and biophysics, computational biology and bioinformatics, and physiology, are encouraged to apply.  

Founded in 1947, faculty in UD Biology have world class research programs spanning a wide-variety of areas, with strengths in the molecular and cellular mechanisms of human diseases and developmental disorders, using various vertebrate and invertebrate model organisms. Successful applicants will be part of UD’s NIH-funded Center for Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE): the Delaware Center for Musculoskeletal Research (DCMR) (https://sites.udel.edu/engr-dcmr/). The DCMR will support multiple new faculty across collaborating departments with opportunities for joint appointments, will provide research infrastructure, and will support faculty success with mentoring and funding opportunities. The Department of Biological Sciences (https://www.bio.udel.edu/) has outstanding facilities and support, including a vibrant collaborative research and teaching community, and consists of 33 faculty and a robust graduate program with around 90 graduate students in the MS/PhD programs. The University offers a highly interactive multidisciplinary scientific environment with state-of-the-art core facilities in bioimaging, sequencing, bioinformatics, genomics, proteomics and a vivarium (https://sites.udel.edu/engr-dcmr/core-facilities-shared-resources/).  UD Biology also enjoys close relationships and opportunities for innovative clinical and translational collaborations with Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, Thomas Jefferson University, the School of Veterinary Medicine and Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, and others. The campus in Newark, Delaware provides a vibrant college town located near the I-95 corridor between NYC/Philadelphia and Baltimore/Washington, DC, and with easy access to farmland, nature preserves and parks, rivers and the Atlantic beaches.

 

Candidates must have a doctoral or equivalent degree in biology or a related field and postdoctoral experience. The successful candidate is expected to: 1) develop and maintain a nationally recognized, externally funded research program; 2) train BS, MS and PhD students; and 3) teach undergraduate and graduate level courses, 4) contribute to departmental committees that support department functions and academic programs.
