 Postdoctoral position available to study the genetics of a new form of radiation sensitivity that develops in colorectal cancer upon transition from adenoma to carcinoma. The work entails use of patient-derived organoids (PDOs) generated from biopsy specimens from ongoing neo-adjuvant treatment clinical trials for colorectal cancer. Data to date indicate a specific DNA repair signature defines a subset of patients that are good responders to therapy. Further, pharmacologic manipulation of enzymes in that signature results in substantively-enhanced responses in PDOs. Clinical translation of these efforts is planned. Our work was recently featured at the 2021 Corning Virtual 3D Summit (www.corning.com/3D summit), an international meeting that focused on use of organoids to investigate human disease in a Panel Discussion: Organoids as Patient Avatars for Personalized Medicine.
