GreenDairy develops innovative integrated crop-livestock systems, which are ecologically and economically sustainable, enable a special level of animal welfare and are widely accepted in society. Funded through the Federal State of Hesse within the LOEWE program, GreenDairy is a joined project from the Justus Liebig University in Gießen and the University of Kassel. The following positions are available:
10 PhD
animal nutrition, breeding, and welfare; remote sensing in grassland and arable systems; crop breeding; greenhouse gas emissions from soils and dairy; soil quality; microbial diversity; economics and societal acceptance
In particular, GreenDairy investigates two intensity levels of organic dairy production systems linked to the value chains milk, meat and plant-based human food. Cattle farming in a mixed farming system (livestock and crop production) is considered one of the possible solutions for closing the disconnected material and nutrient cycles in agriculture. Yet there is a lack of knowledge about the effects of different levels of intensity of such production systems on ecology, economy and animal welfare.
We offer outstanding conditions in an innovative scientific field and are looking for highly motivated scientists. Check for available positions and apply by November 4th, 2021.
