Associate Director, Public Affairs, Kite Intercontinental Region

Associate Director, Intercontinental Public Affairs for Kite is responsible for executing the internal and external communications and advocacy strategies in the Intercontinental region, in alignment with the global Public Affairs team and in support of the region's business priorities. This position will work closely with Kite's Intercontinental leadership team, country business unit directors, other functional leaders and communications leads in South America, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. This person will promote, enhance and protect Kite's reputation, enable the Intercontinental business goals and enhance Kite's connection with our patients and community in those markets. The position reports to the Senior Director of International Public Affairs and will be based in Stockley Park, UK.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute the Intercontinental region's external communications strategy in support of the product portfolio and business objectives, anticipating short-, medium- and long-term needs. Strategy components include media relations, digital, reputation management, issues and crisis management, brand/ therapeutic area communications, corporate communications and content/channel planning.
  • Create and implement an integrated external communications plan ensuring Kite builds relationships with and delivers timely and accurate information to patient advocacy organizations, media and other relevant groups who influence the public discussion about our industry, cell therapy focus and the general healthcare environment.
  • Align with other external facing functions to communicate consistent messaging across policymakers, patient groups, physicians and payers.
  • Cultivate and maintain deep relationships with business press, medical & consumer media, key industry opinion leaders and external stakeholders.
  • Provide key inputs to our internal communications and employee engagement strategy by proactively driving ideas and programs that support culture evolution and an engaged workforce. Help drive communications strategy and execution across Intercontinental geographies.
  • Ensure that Kite's key messaging, narratives and FAQs scale to international teams, and that our culture and values are integrated into our communication efforts and are consistent across channels.
  • Support region, country, and project teams to plan and execute launches, conferences, and other events as needed.
  • Apply data and insights to drive key objectives and establish reputational KPIs for the Intercontinental region.
  • Champion the inclusion of the patient voice among cross-functional projects.


Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
  • Bachelors degree in a relevant subject preferable.
  • Minimum of 8 years public affairs experience, preferably in healthcare, pharmaceutical or biotech, with experience in international markets.
  • Desire and ability to look ahead, anticipate industry trends, and align with external market factors and internal dynamics.
  • Highly effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; demonstrated ability to effectively and comfortably interact at all levels. Ability to create factual, relevant and easily understandable talking points and other messaging, and persuasively deliver it to relevant audiences.
  • Seasoned storyteller and business-oriented communicator with a strong belief in Kite's mission.
  • Strong analytical experience having worked in a data driven organization and understands how to apply and measure analytics.
  • Expert in corporate communications with proven experience managing executive and crisis communications, and in the application of digital and social media tools and channels to communications programming.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, effectively analyzing and assessing opportunities and threats.
  • Ability to influence, negotiate with, and effectively persuade others.
  • Effective prioritization skills.
  • Flexible with strong judgment / decision-making skills, and political acumen and awareness.
  • Ability to think critically, process data from multiple sources, forecast potential scenarios, build a course of action, and make recommendations even in ambiguous situations.
  • Maintain highest personal levels of ethical conduct, confidentiality, and integrity, with strongest professional reputation in the industry.
  • Ability to travel to Intercontinental markets as needed.
