A Postdoctoral position is currently available at Dr. Hernando’s laboratory, in the Department of Pathology at NYU School of Medicine. The Hernando laboratory is studying the contributions of non-genetic alterations to the aggressive behavior of melanoma. We have found that melanoma’s metastatic potential results from re-activation of transcriptional programs characteristic of neural crest cells, the melanocyte cell-of-origin and a multipotent and highly migratory cell type. In addition, we are investigating the molecular basis for melanoma’s notorious ability to adapt to the brain microenvironment. Our studies are exposing novel drivers of melanoma progression, which can become novel prognostic or therapeutic targets. More information on our lab’s projects and culture can be found in our website: www.hernandolab.com

The candidate will have a unique opportunity to work in a stimulating scientific environment. The NYU Department of Pathology is a vital component of the NYU Langone Health system, and the Perlmutter Cancer Center is a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer center, which provides a multidisciplinary and exceptional training opportunity.

Qualifications. Highly motivated, organized and creative individuals, excited to apply cutting-edge molecular techniques to push new boundaries and qualified to apply competitively for postdoctoral fellowships, are encouraged to apply. A PhD in molecular or cell biology is required, with preference for a strong background in cancer biology and experience in animal models. The candidate must be able to work independently and contribute to the team. Excellent communication skills in written and oral English are essential. Interested applicants can send their Curriculum Vitae and a letter of intent describing the motivations to apply for the position to: Eva.Hernando-Monge@nyulangone.org
