Position Summary
Performs advanced and complex level-specific activities related to research projects in the Division of Population Sciences. Assists Division Chair and other research personnel in managing the operational and technical aspects for multiple studies within the Outcomes Research, Etiology and Behavioral Oncology programs. Manages personnel issues, including staff supervision and training, recruitment of new staff, assistance with the hiring process, completion of performance evaluations, motivation, counseling and directing staff, and resolving work-flow issues. Assists in writing grants, manuscripts, abstracts, and research reports. Responsible for ensuring that all regulatory documents and submissions are current and ensure the compliance of all research protocols approved by the City of Hope IRB as well as other regulatory agencies. Must be able to function independently and proficiently as defined in the position accountabilities. Key Responsibilities include:
Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
- Functions as a resource to divisional staff within the Division of Population Sciences. Provides clarification or recommendations as appropriate to administrative, personnel or other activities related to research projects in the Division.
- Manages personnel issues, including staff supervision and training, recruitment of new staff, assists with hiring process, completion of performance evaluations, counseling and directing staff, and resolving work-flow issues.
- Assists Principal Investigators with IRB tracking, submission, and correspondence. Responsible for ensuring that all regulatory documents and submissions are current and ensure compliance of all research protocols approved by the City of Hope IRB as well as other regulatory agencies.
- Reviews protocols for data management requirements and workload assignments.
- Assists Division Chair and other research personnel in managing the operational and technical aspects for multiple studies within the Outcomes Research, Etiology and Behavioral Oncology programs.
- Works closely with Division Administrator in business -related and fiscal activities, including but not limited to budget preparation and monitoring, purchasing, personnel, time and attendance.
- Supervises the overall responsibilities of the day to day activities of Clinical Research Coordinators and Assistants, Conducts personnel performance reviews, soliciting feedback from all relevant Project Managers, staff members, and Department/Division leads.
- Participates in the training and quality control monitoring of Population Sciences Clinical Research Coordinators (PSCRCs) to ensure proper database management; promoting accuracy, overall efficiency, uniformity.
- Assists the Division Chair, Principal Investigators and Co-Investigators in the preparation grant proposals, manuscripts, abstracts, and research reports.
- Serve as a liaison between Division Chair, City of Hope research team and investigators at outside institutions. Consults with funding agencies, research collaborators and participating institutions as necessary. Ensure timely submission of data from outside centers according to protocol requirements.
- Makes recommendations and participates in Policy and Procedure development and revision for the Division of Population Sciences.
- Attends meetings and participates on committees as required. Communicates relevant issues to the Department/Division heads, or other appropriate staff members.
- Uses good judgment to bring problem areas and issues to the attention of the appropriate Department/Division heads.
- Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to maintain certification/licensure and/or keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
- Is self-motivated in organizing and following through on assigned projects.
- Ensures work environment is organized and functions efficiently.
- Attends and participates in meetings required.
- Responsible for creating dynamic reports, for multiple studies, which help to streamline the tracking of patient eligibility, participation, and documents study progress.
- Responsibly for training and quality control monitoring of Population Sciences Clinical Research Assistants (PSCRAs) to ensure proper database management; promoting accuracy, overall efficiency, uniformity.
- Serves as a technical resource for the Division.
- Provides staff relief as required to meet the needs of the Division.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Preferred education experience and skills:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Minimum of five years of experience in an academic or research environment.
- Supervisory experience required
- Must have shown ability to work effectively with numerous Principal Investigators.
- A high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.
- Excellent human relations skills. Able to function as a member of a cohesive management team
- Sensitivity to multicultural relations
- Proficiency in database design and creation-20 in MS Access/MS Excel
- Excellent oral/written communication and organizational skills
- Communicate technical information in a clear, concise manner
- Monitor and train other employees
- Master content across all clinical research areas
- Familiarity with Statistics
Preferred Certification/Licensure: Additional Information:
- Master's Degree in Biological Sciences, Public Health, or related field.
