Job Details

The scope of this hybrid schedule position is to serve as the Grant Program Manager for the McCombs Institute for the Early Detection and Treatment of Cancer. This position manages the biomarker programs as part of the Center for Global Early Detection. These programs include the MERIT and multicenter LEAP clinical studies for the early detection of breast and lung cancers; DoD/NIH-funded programs for biomarker discovery; Moon Shots programs including the Proteomics platform; and industry-sponsored research within the Institute.

The position manages the continuum of research administration, financial, operational and supporting a department or program involving planning, implementation, coordination, supervision, collaboration and communication. Impacts the effectiveness, efficiency and quality of comprehensive research administration, more specifically pre and post award activities. Demonstrates and maintains proficiency with funding agencies policies, procedures, regulations. Collaborates with, advises and trains investigators, research and administrative staff and trainees. Writes and delivers reports. Supervises designated staff.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:

Pre-Award Management:

Plans, drafts and implements policies and procedures to support applications for internal and external funding (federal, industry, foundation, donor). Coordinates and supervises operations, staffing and processes for proposal development, including related documents, for example curriculum vita, biosketch and other support). Collaborates with investigators or their designee on the administrative aspects of the application and subsequent award. Investigates, studies and demonstrates proficiency with funding agency guidelines; interprets guidelines and educates stakeholders. Establishes and monitors quality assurance practices and recommends improvements. Serves as liaison with funding agencies, institutional representatives and other stakeholders.

Post-Award Management:

Plans, drafts and implements policies and procedures to support post award activities; supervises associated staff. Manages internal and external budgets or awards, including award setup procedures, establishment of chart field accounts, agreements, contracts and services. Manages the integrity of financial and research data in external and internal databases. Advises investigators on sponsor requirements. Collaborates on personnel allocations and submits ePAFs. Manages effort reporting processes. Prepares financial projections, forecasts. Consults on and facilitates submission of progress, interim, financial and ad hoc reports. Establishes and monitors quality assurance practices and recommends improvements.

Financial Management:

Manages all grant and non-grant research funds for the McCombs Institute.

Conceptualizes, designs, creates and implements systems, procedures and reports for financial budgeting and expenditures. Performs financial forecasts and analysis. Submits and reconciles financial transactions associated with personnel and operational expenditures. Manages and assures financial reviews through meetings with division, department, faculty and institutional stakeholders. Serves as delegate authorizer or signer for expenditures, as designated. Resolves level specific financial problems and concerns.

EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE:
Required: Two years of grant management experience such as grant writing, grant submission and financial administration and one year of lead or supervisory experience. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one year basis. Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate program may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience.

Required: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
