Summary of Duties:

Washington State University College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is seeking a Chair for the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The Chair will serve as a catalyst to promote inter- and intra-departmental collaborations within the College and University. The Chair will support innovation and entrepreneurship within the research mission of the College and provide strategic and operational leadership to achieve the vision, mission, and goals of the Department, College, and University.

Reporting to the Dean and serving on the Executive Committee, the Chair will be responsible for leading a world-class, research-focused department and for maintaining an outstanding, externally funded research program that generates in excess of $10M annually. Faculty members within the department conduct basic and translational research in critical areas of pharmaceutical and toxicological sciences, addressing a variety of major health disorders including inflammatory, cardiovascular, and infectious diseases, and cancer using in vitro and in vivo models. Research approaches of our faculty include computational pharmacology and molecular modeling, interindividual variability in drug metabolism, disposition and toxicity, pediatric- and physiologically-based pharmacokinetic modeling, pharmacogenomics, and drug discovery and medicinal chemistry.

The Department supports the training of students in the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program, including teaching the concepts of the pharmaceutical sciences within the curriculum, and provides graduate student training in programs that lead to the PhD and PharmD/PhD degrees in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Molecular Medicine. The Department offers a popular summer undergraduate research program that is funded by the American Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics. The Chair will be responsible for leading additional growth in the Department’s signature research areas and for enhancing collaborative research throughout the WSU Health Sciences campus. The Chair will support academic programs for professional pharmacy students and graduate students, as well as teaching and training opportunities for postdoctoral fellows.

The position requires excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to unite diverse groups of scientists, students, and staff to advance the common goals of the Department, College, and University. The successful candidate will be a strong leader with a proven track record in an area of research within or related to the pharmaceutical sciences, a clear understanding of the complexities of leading an academic department, and the ability to lead growth and development of the department.

The responsibilities and duties of the Chair include those described below:
