The Medical Faculty Mannheim, Heidelberg University seeks as soon as possible qualified applicants for the position of the

W3 Professorship for “Biostatistics and Methodology of Translational Research", Heinrich-Lanz Endowed Professorship (f/m/d) (Successor Prof. Dr. S. Wellek)

The professorship will be located at the Central Institute of Mental Health, Mannheim (Foundation under Public Law, Director: Prof. Dr. Andreas Meyer-Lindenberg, Commercial Director: Dr. Matthias Janta).

The Central Institute of Mental Health (ZI) stands for internationally outstanding research and pioneering treatment concepts in psychiatry and psychotherapy, child and adolescent psychiatry, psychosomatic medicine and addiction medicine. The distinguishing feature of the institute is its dual function as a health care and research institution. It is precisely this structure that enables the direct implementation of a translational research approach from basic research to clinical application.

To ensure successful translational research in the areas of "Investigator-Initiated Trials (IIT)" and the biomarker-stratified treatment strategies the ZI intends to expand the Department of Biostatistics to "Biostatistics and Methodology of Translational Research". This will take place by close cooperation with the Heinrich-Lanz-Foundation.

In the overall context of "Digital Health", close cooperation is also expected with the departments of "Biomedical Informatics" and "Complex Data Processing in Medical Informatics" at the Department of Digital Health of the Center for Preventive Medicine and Digital Health Baden-Württemberg (CPD-BW) at the Medical Faculty Mannheim.

The professorship represents the subject area in research and teaching and is integrated into the ongoing research foci of the ZI and the Medical Faculty Mannheim. We are seeking applicants whose research profile focuses on biostatistics and the methodology of translational research in general, thus offering links for collaborative projects with clinicians and basic researchers on a high international level. The applicant should have expertise in methods of translational research that go beyond the methodological repertoire of classical (bio-) statistics. This includes the integration of genetic and functional genetic as well as phenotypic information from imaging, clinical and cognitive data in order to apply statistical methods in statistical genomics as well as molecular and genetic epidemiology of complex diseases, especially psychiatric diseases. The professorship is entrusted with the management of the department for "Biostatistics and Methodology of Translational Research" at the ZI and a department of the same name at the CPD-BW.

Requirements for the W3 professorship for "Biostatistics and Methodology of Translational Research" are:

  • University degree in (applied) mathematics, statistics, medical biometrics / biostatistics or in a related field
  • Doctorate of outstanding quality in a field relevant to the subject area and, in accordance with § 47 (2) of the State University Law, a habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior professorship or a comparable academic qualification
  • Proven research successes in relevant fields such as biostatistics, medical biometrics or comparable areas, as evidenced by third-party funding and publications
  • Experience in the acquisition and coordination of joint funding instruments and institutional research funding
  • Participation in translational research projects and clinical studies, including IITs
  • Management experience of multi-professional scientific working groups

The appointment is a joint appointment of Heidelberg University and the Central Institute of Mental Health Mannheim in the Jülicher Modell. The position is available permanently. Funding for the position will be provided by the Heinrich-Lanz-Stiftung for at least five years, after which the position will be financed from the budget of the ZI. An interim evaluation is not planned. If general civil servant eligibility and budgetary conditions are fulfilled, direct appointment to permanent civil servant status can be made.

Please send applications, including the usual documents (see https://www.umm.uni-heidelberg.de/karriere/berufung/) only electronically until November 14, 2021 to Prof. Dr. med. Sergij Goerdt, Dean of the Medical Faculty Mannheim, Heidelberg University, Universitätsmedizin Mannheim. Therefore consider the „Bewerber-Leitfaden Formatvorlage“ and the „Bewerber-Formblatt“ of the University Medicine Mannheim for W3 Professorships.

Heidelberg University stands for equal opportunities and diversity. Qualified female candidates are especially invited to apply. Disabled persons will be given preference if they are equally qualified. Information on job postings and the collection of personal data is available at www.uni-heidelberg.de/stellenmarkt.
