Job Details

The Genetics department is a basic science department located in the George and Cynthia Mitchell Basic Sciences Research Building at the world-renowned University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in the heart of the Texas Medical Center. The focus is on advancing knowledge of the molecular genetic mechanisms that regulate normal and abnormal cellular processes.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree with major course work in one of the basic sciences, basic laboratory and customer skills, and exhibit attention to detail.

Key Functions

Next Generation Sequencing sample Intake
  • Perform sample intake and quality assessment for the Next Generation Sequencing service.
  • Generate and distribute sample QC reports.

LIMS
  • Create new projects in LIMS
  • Ensure all data in LIMS is accurate and complete
  • Generate project reports for use in billing

Inventory Tracking
  • Monitor reagent and supply inventory.
  • Order as required to ensure workflow is not negatively impacted.

Laboratory Organization
  • Adhere to established SOPs and maintain detailed and well-organized records of protocols performed and results obtained

Customer Service (Service Cores)
  • Follow Core guidelines regarding order processing.
  • Alert supervisor to problems with orders or with the queue.
  • Interact with client user groups and alert supervisor to problems/concerns.
  • Excellent customer service skills are essential.

Other Duties
  • Perform other laboratory duties as assigned

Required: Bachelor's degree, major course work in one of the basic sciences.
