Physical Chemistry Tenure-Track Full-Time Faculty Position

The Department of Chemistry at Cleveland State University (CSU) invites applications for a tenure-track, full-time faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor in Physical Chemistry, starting August 22, 2022. CSU is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. CSU is striving to be a nationally recognized and student-focused public research institution that provides accessible, affordable, and Engaged Learning opportunities for all.  

Duties: The faculty member hired is expected to teach general and physical chemistry courses at the undergraduate level and graduate courses in physical chemistry, and may have the opportunity to develop new upper-level undergraduate or graduate courses in their area of expertise. The faculty member is expected to establish an independent, externally funded, and nationally recognized research program involving undergraduate and graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.) students. The candidate’s research program will involve experimental work and be geared towards biophysical chemistry, with emphasis on the application of physical chemistry to biomedical sciences. The faculty member is encouraged to seek collaborations with other CSU faculty and Cleveland Clinic researchers. The faculty member will also be expected to provide departmental and university service. 

Minimum qualifications: Ph.D. degree in physical chemistry or a closely related field, with postdoctoral research experience; Evidence for being able to establish an independent, externally-funded research program; and the ability to teach chemistry at the undergraduate and graduate level.

Preferred qualifications: The successful candidate will have a record of publication in appropriate peer-reviewed journals, demonstrated success in obtaining external funding, good communication and interpersonal skills, documented teaching experience and excellence in general and physical chemistry courses, evidence of ability to contribute through teaching and/or service to the diversity, cultural sensitivity, and excellence of the academic community, and potential to collaborate with principal investigators in the Department of Chemistry, other departments at CSU, and the Cleveland Clinic.

The Department of Chemistry offers B.S. degrees in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences, an M.S. degree in Chemistry, and a Ph.D. degree in Clinical-Bioanalytical Chemistry, which is jointly administered with the Cleveland Clinic. The Ph.D. program in Clinical Chemistry is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Clinical Chemistry. Currently, the Department of Chemistry consists of 13 full-time, research-active faculty and 4 lecturers, with many researchers at the Cleveland Clinic’s Lerner Research Institute as affiliated faculty.
