Position Summary

The Research Project Manager collaborates with the principal investigator and center leaders in developing, coordinating, and facilitating the activities of the Wanek Project for Type 1 Diabetes, including the organization of manpower effort and development of program structure. The position will be the primary liaison between the Project Director and Administrator and the Scientific Leads. It will be accountable for overseeing the management and tracking the performance of each project. The position will partner with the Project Director and Administrator and be responsible for the semi-annual and annual reporting requirements for the project. This position requires a significant degree of independence and ability to make sound professional decisions. This job also requires high organizational skills, self-motivation, creativity, and meticulous documentation.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • To help form working groups to determine and study details of interactions between proposed scientific programs under the Wanek Project.
  • Help working groups define currently available resources and determine additional resources that may be required in order to meet scientific milestones and expectations.
  • Establish the Innovative Fund Program, including the write-up of request-for-proposal, establishment of criteria for awards, and develop processes for proposal submission, review, selection, awarding, program reporting, and assessment of success of subsequent funding.
  • Schedule all meetings for and between working groups, internal and external advisory committees, as well as for the Project Director, Administrator, Program Leaders, and Wanek affiliates.
  • Provide periodic updates to Wanek leadership regarding the progress of the working groups and other preparatory work for grant submission.
  • Keeps detailed minutes of all meetings and transcribes them in a reasonable amount of time for review.
  • Available to travel to other national DERC program sites to establish and promote possible interactions with external centers not part of the COH-DERC.
  • Keeps timeline for all relevant deadline dates.
  • Commands excellent writing skills in order to assist with abstract/manuscript/grant preparation and submission.
  • Provides service in a manner consistent with his/her specific role and function according to COH policy and procedure.
  • Maintains current knowledge and awareness of organizational and regulatory standards, policies and procedures relevant to the diabetes center.
  • Participates in a collaborative, empowered work environment as demonstrated through teamwork.
  • Effectively communicates with all relevant parties within the institution in order to meet COH organization goals.
  • Advances knowledge and skills as required for the continuing success of the COH-DERC grant application and management.
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by appropriate and timely use of organizational resources.
  • Actively participates in performance improvement activities through data collection and/or participation in corrective action plans to continuously improve program goals and activities.
  • Addresses all customers including patients, visitors and colleagues in a pleasant and respectful manner.
  • Assists patients/visitors/colleagues as needed without being directed.
  • Assures data is collected for the purpose of evaluating quality care/treatment/service delivery and customer service in a timely manner.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
  • Master's degree in life sciences.
  • Five or more years of experience in a healthcare research setting including experience in budget development, grants management, space management and/or personnel management. At least three years experience in a scientific laboratory.

Preferred education experience and skills:
  • PhD preferred.

Additional Information:
