Responsibilities
The Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) seeks candidates for a Tenure-track Assistant Professor position, beginning Fall 2022. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree with postdoctoral research experience in microbiology or immunology. We are particularly interested in applicants using cutting-edge approaches to study microbial immunity or drug discovery for treatment of fungal and parasitic infection with a single or mixed agent(s). The focus of microbial immunity includes broadly defined areas in innate/adaptive immunity, host-microbe interactions and vaccine development. Responsibilities include maintaining an active research program to successfully compete for extramural grants and teaching undergraduate, master and Ph.D. courses. Successful candidate should demonstrate her/his ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of diverse urban populations and support the University's commitment to thrive as a Hispanic Serving Institution and a model for student success. This tenure-track position includes generous compensation, fringe benefits, competitive start-up package, ample office/laboratory space and access to state-of-the-art core facilities, instrumentation, and BSL3/ABSL3 space.

Successful candidates will join an interactive group of faculty within the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology and the South Texas Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases. Research strengths comprise host-microbe interactions and molecular microbiology, including mycology, bacteriology and parasitology, microbiome, T and B cell function, novel vaccine design, autoimmunity, and drug discovery. The department and the college offer exceptional technical resources in many areas with access to expert personnel and core facilities, including flow cytometry and cell sorting, confocal microscopy, electron microscopy, proteomics, genomics and a BSL3 facility
