The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center is excited to announce a faculty opening at the Associate Professor level in the Frederick F. Paustian Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center (PIBDC) in Omaha, NE. The PIBDC is a newly created center dedicated to improving the lives of IBD patients through expert, integrated, innovative patient-centered care as well as through ground-breaking clinical, translational and basic research programs. A prospective biobank with a sample-linked clinical database has been established to serve the center’s research mission. We are seeking to expand our center’s strengths in epidemiology, microbiome study, genetics, epithelial biology and mucosal immunology investigations.

This position offers the opportunity to conduct research that uncovers the mechanisms of environmental, diet, and gut microbial factors on IBD development through host genetics, immunity and epithelial responses. Candidates should have a record of early stage independent funding, publication and laboratory program management. The Center’s work on the prevention and treatment of IBD is accomplished within a collaborative group of clinicians, clinical trialists, and translational and basic scientists.  This faculty member   will develop a productive and nationally recognized program as well as provide excellent training and research opportunities for our students and residents.

The successful candidate must be an MD or PhD or MD/PhD in immunology, microbiology, genetics, biomedical sciences or related fields. Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience in research administration and project management are required. Candidates with primary expertise in epidemiology, microbiome study, human and microbial genetics, epithelial biology and gut mucosal immunology as well as related secondary expertise in nutrition, bioinformatics, and large database biostatistics are especially welcome. Opportunity for joint appointments in other departments, colleges and institutes appropriate to background and expertise, including the College of Public Health, Eppley Institute for Cancer Research, College of Pharmacy and the Nebraska Food for Health Center in Lincoln, NE are available.

We offer a highly competitive salary, academic appointment commensurate with experience and a fully comprehensive benefits package including relocation assistance.
