Position Description:

The Center for Biotechnology Education, housed within the Advanced Academic Programs (AAP), seeks a Faculty Program Director to teach in and provide administrative leadership to the Individualized Genomics and Health (IGH) program.  Of particular interest are candidates who have experience teaching and engaging students from diverse backgrounds. The Faculty Program Director is a full-time, non-tenure-track, 12-month renewable faculty position with the academic title of Senior Lecturer.  The Faculty Program Director will have significant interaction/collaboration with all members of the Center (Center Director, other Program Directors, Assistant Program Directors, Program Coordinators and Faculty), as well as with the Associate Dean for AAP, other AAP Program Directors, AAP staff, and administrators.  The Program Director reports to the Associate Dean for AAP and the Director for the Center for Biotechnology Education.  This position is expected to begin January 2022. The Program Director will have the following faculty and administrative responsibilities:

Faculty Responsibilities

  • Teaching 4 graduate courses per year, including the preparation for and time spent in the classroom (online or onsite), using best practices for online teaching, engaging and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds in the learning process, responding to student questions;
  • Advising students, including thesis and/or capstone advising;
  • Providing innovative leadership for curriculum design and new course development to ensure the growth and delivery of quality programs;
  • Other academic duties normally performed by full-time, such as participating on committees, attending academic events, or contributing to other academic service.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Providing overall supervision for the IGH program, including management of Certificates or Concentrations;
  • Overseeing full-time and adjunct faculty development, hiring, and evaluation; making personnel decisions in consultation with the Center Director and KSAS Dean or designee
  • Overseeing program admissions processes, including reviewing and approving prospect admission materials
  • Assisting the Center Director in semesterly course scheduling
  • Coordinating program promotion and outreach, including interacting with outside groups and developing external / internal partnerships;
  • Coordinating with staff in student and faculty services, online education, marketing, finance, and enrollment services departments on operational issues related to program administration
  • Other administrative duties as assigned.

 Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in the life sciences or in a relevant field [e.g. bioinformatics, genomics];
  • 3-5 years of higher education teaching experience online and/or at the graduate level;
  • 3 or more years of experience at the Associate Director level, or equivalent administrative experience
  • 1-3 years of related professional work experience outside of academia, including but not limited to outside consulting or collaborative work within the life science, biotechnology, and/or pharmaceutical fields;
  • the ability to teach a wide variety of courses in, for example, the fields of life sciences and omics. demonstrated track record of excellence in teaching and innovation in curriculum design

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Terminal Degree in the life sciences or in a relevant field [e.g. bioinformatics, genomics];
  • 5 or more years of higher education teaching experience online and/or at the graduate level;
  • 3 or more years of related professional work experience outside of academia within the life science, biotechnology, and/or pharmaceutical fields;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with competing demands and multiple deadlines;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Experience managing a degree or certificate program Experience with managing a budget
