The W2 professorship represents the full spectrum of the food chemistry subject in teaching and research.
The professorship is based in the Department of Chemistry and is expected to take part in the Hamburg School of Food Science (HSFS). The post holder should have exceptional academic qualifications in the field of food chemistry, particularly in analytics and the understanding of foodstuffs, and should be internationally renowned in this field. They are expected to have a successful track record of publications and acquiring external funding.
Their future activities should make a strategic contribution to the Department of Chemistry’s specialization in biochemistry and molecular biology as well as material chemistry and nanochemistry. Applicants are expected to participate in natural science research for the University’s core research areas Manuscript Cultures and/or Infection Research. For example, for the latter core research area, expertise in the development of rapid test procedures is desired.
The post holder is expected to actively participate in teaching at the foundational and advanced levels in the Bachelor’s of Science and Master’s of Science in Food Chemistry and in associated minor degree programs. Teaching includes conducting lectures, exercises, and seminars; supervising practical laboratory courses and internships; and supervising final theses for the degree programs offered by the Department of Chemistry.
Section 12 subsection 7 sentence 2 of the Hamburg higher education act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG) applies.

Applicants are expected to have international research experience as well as a successful track record in acquiring external funding and carrying out externally funded projects.
The University places particular emphasis on the quality of teaching and therefore requests that applicants provide details of their teaching experience and objectives.
Non-German-speaking post holders are expected to acquire the language skills necessary to teach in German (Level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) within two years of commencing employment.
