Dean for the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen

The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences is looking to appoint a new, visionary Dean from 1 May 2022 to head and facilitate the Faculty’s development, thus ensuring that the Faculty can continue to deliver ground-breaking, international-level research results and the best candidates for the future healthcare system. It is an important job, and expectations of the new Dean are high.

The Dean’s functions, competences and values
The Dean must have in-depth professional insight into the Faculty’s study programmes and be respected for his/her professional competences and research results, nationally and internationally. Moreover, the Dean must be able to use his/her professional competences to initiate new types of collaborations with the business community, funds and others and to offer new solutions to complex problems.

The Dean must be able to pinpoint the direction for a large, complex and unified university, where the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences’ study programmes and research environments stand out as unique and call for diverse solutions, while at the same time contributing to good, stimulating cooperation across the University, the Faculty, study programmes and research environments. Moreover, he/she must ensure that the Faculty moves forward and continues to be at the forefront of the megatrends of the next decade (sustainability, diversity, [health] equality, digitisation etc.).

The Dean must be a leader – and a leader of leaders. The Faculty has an extensive portfolio, a large and complex group of highly talented specialists and leaders and, not least, a large student population which must be trained for positions in the future healthcare system.

The Dean must be calm, thoughtful and a strong communicator, and he/she must be characterised by a surplus of mental resources and personal integrity. Most importantly, the Dean must be goal-oriented, visionary and a source of inspiration. He/she must also be a strategic leader, who likes to involve others, but who is also capable of leading the way through change and innovation.

Conditions of employment
The employment a fixed-term position and for a period of five years with the opportunity of a three-year administrative extension. The Dean is employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC, the protocol on the appointment of deans and heads of department, which specifies that the wage shall consist of a basic wage, fixed-term supplement, pension contribution and, where relevant, qualification allowance.
