Advanced Electron Microscopy for Biological and Material Sciences
The University of Missouri is searching for several outstanding faculty across disciplines who are at the forefront of electron microscopy imaging and related techniques to launch a vigorous program of scientific research. There is strong interest in candidates who work in the areas of biological and material sciences at the atomic and molecular scale. Research areas of interest include, but are not limited to, biomolecular interactions at high resolution, large volume 3-D imaging of biological tissues, quantum and low-dimensional materials at the forefront of condensed matter physics, as well as research at the interface between soft matter and novel inorganic materials.
The University has partnered with Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. in a $27M expansion of capabilities, including a Krios G4 Cryo-TEM, an Aquilos Cryo-FIB, a Helios Hydra, a Spectra 300 TEM and a VolumeScope. These instruments are housed in a Center within the new NextGen Precision Health Institute that was developed to provide world-class resources for interdisciplinary researchers (https://precisionhealth.missouri.edu/facilities). The Center will be an excellent place for multi-technique integration of electron microscopy with light microscopy and other approaches, and for development of new methods. As an additional unique resource for researchers, the University of Missouri campus operates a powerful research reactor (MURR) equipped with multiple neutron scattering instruments to investigate the structure and dynamics of materials.
A PhD in a relevant discipline is required. The successful candidate is expected to establish an internationally/nationally competitive research program. Depending on qualifications, the positions could be at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, or Professor. The positions could have more than one departmental affiliation with a tenure home in a physical science, natural science, biomedical science or engineering department.
