The successful applicants will join a growing core of faculty working in the areas of neurodegenerative disease modeling, neurogenetics and neuroinflammation, blood-brain barrier modeling, neurobehavior and endocrinology, and natural products pharmacology and drug delivery systems. Research expectations include mentoring graduate and undergraduate students and developing an externally funded research program. Teaching responsibilities include basic undergraduate courses in neurobiology and/or physiology and graduate courses in successful candidates’ areas of expertise. Successful applicants will be highly motivated individuals with the ability to collaborate with other faculty members in the Department of Biological Sciences and in other departments and research institutes (e.g., Alabama Life Research Institute).

Questions about the position should be addressed to the chair of the search committee, Dr. Kim Caldwell (kcaldwel@ua.edu). The search committee will request letters of reference as needed. Consideration of applications will begin November 29, 2021, and will continue until the positions are filled. There will be a preliminary Zoom conversation with selected applicants, after which top candidates will be informed whether their formal interviews will proceed virtually or in-person, depending on how the present coronavirus pandemic has evolved by that time. Prior to hiring, the final candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment background investigation. The expected start date is August 15, 2022.
